"This war is so fucking illegal!"

So the Army is finally getting around to conducting an investigation of Pat Tillman's death, allegedly at the hands of 'friendly fire'.  While the Pentagon generally lies about everything, their lying about the killing of an All-American hero seems to be the only lie that irks nearly everyone.

We anticipated that conspiracy theories would envelope the Pat Tillman mystique, but so far they haven't really manifest themselves beyond David Duke circles--and we're not even sure why lunatic American racists oppose the Iraqi war. 

So, absent any Zionist plots, let us get this reality-based conspiracy rolling with some facts and speculation.

• Pat Tillman was a recognized American hero for turning his back on a NFL dream career, and the luxurious lifestyle which accompanies it, to protect his country.
  
• Tillman held deep misgivings about the Iraq War, and infused himself with lefty literature, even setting up a meeting with Noam Chomsky: every patriotic Republican's favorite bete noir.
• By April of 2004 (Tillman was killed April 22), John Kerry had wrapped up the Democratic nomination for President on the strength of his war veteran credentials.
• Pat Tillman openly criticized the war to his fellow soldiers and was known to be documenting his thoughts and experiences in a detailed diary.
• The army employs no shortage of neo-fascist wingnuts who instinctually attack those questioning the status quo--witness the Swift Boaters. Many of these nutters are only too willing to commit untold horrors on their own initiative--witness Abu Graib.
• Pat Tillman was killed by 'friendly fire" who happened to shoot him in three shots closely clustered in his forehead--it is almost inconceivable that a shooter with that amazing precision would be unable to recognize the American uniform his victim was wearing.
• Tillman's body armor, uniform, and diary were immediately burned.
• The Pentagon fabricated a story suggesting Tillman was killed in combat with terrorists and died an American hero for Bush's War on Terror.

Is it possible that Tillman was purposely fragged to prevent another liberal war hero from rising to political prominence?  There needn't be a conspiracy within the Pentagon hierarchy, all it takes is one or several Bush soldiers with a righteous vendetta and a weapon.  Murder can be a localized grudge, but the Pentagon coverup requires an institutional reflex.  Sadly, that reflex is dishonesty: dirty, stinking lies.

To trust such an institution with your life is an act for which no amount of patriotism can save you.
